Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy Shines Brightly
Remember
I can’t remember the first time someone told me about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., yet most of my childhood memories have Dr. King’s likeness in the backdrop. Not far away from our family photos hung a color, 8 x 10 photo of Dr. King. Those that I looked up to spoke of Dr. King with a certain reverence, pride & hope and their stories of unity left me feeling a profound sense of love and appreciation for Dr. King’s leadership.
Celebrate
My parents named me after Dr. King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, which is how their celebration of Dr. King’s life began for me. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. King, but I deeply respect her grace and how she kept Dr. King’s legacy alive.
